The
newly appointed Governing Board of the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC)
was officially inaugurated
on the 11th of July, 2025 at a brief ceremony held
at the Conference room of
Ministry
of Health. The event was presided over by the Minister for Health, Hon.
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
In
his address, the Minister commended the critical but often overlooked
contributions of Allied Health professionals to Ghana’s healthcare system.
“Allied
Health professionals form the invisible backbone of every healthcare facility,”
Hon. Akandoh said. “Yet, they remain underregulated, underdeveloped, and
underrecognized.”
He
described the inauguration as timely, noting that the appointments align with
the Ministry’s broader efforts to make healthcare more accessible, responsive,
and tailored to the changing needs of Ghanaians.
“Your
leadership is not just welcome. It is essential,” he told the new Board.
The
Minister also charged the Council to play a more proactive role in
strengthening the Allied Health workforce. “It’s time these professionals are
not just counted, but equipped, empowered, and upheld to the highest
standards,” he said, adding that doing so would improve diagnostics, continuity
of care, and system-wide efficiency.
Speaking
on behalf of the members, Prof.
Eric Clement Kotei Addison, Chair
of the Board
thanked the Minister for the confidence reposed in them. He confirmed acceptance of the responsibility with a
clear sense of duty on behalf of
members and assured that the Board would not return with complaints but rather return with results. The Board Chair further assured
the Ministry and the public that the Board
was ready to deliver on its mandate.
The
new Board
is expected to help guide the Council’s next phase of regulatory and
institutional growth.
