Dr. Issahaku Shirazu

Registrar, Allied Health Professions Council

The Allied Health Professions Council is pleased to officially welcome Dr. Issahaku Shirazu as it’s newly appointed Registrar.

Dr. Shirazu brings with him a wealth of knowledge, a deep sense of purpose, and a lifelong commitment to service. He has risen through ranks with dedication and grit to become one of Ghana’s most respected medical physicists. Dr Shirazu holds a PhD in Physics, an MPhil in Medical Physics, and a BSc in Physics and Computer Science.

His expertise spans advanced diagnostic imaging technologies like MRI, CT, PET, and SPECT, with hands-on experience in both research and clinical applications. A recognised authority in his field, Dr. Shirazu has worked across top institutions including the Radiological and Medical Sciences Research Institute of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Beyond his impressive academic and professional record, over 30 peer-reviewed publications, multiple software solutions, and countless technical contributions, Dr. Shirazu has always kept his focus on one thing; impact. Be it within the educational system, developing imaging protocols for radiation oncology, or mentoring the next generation of medical physicists, his goal remains unchanged, to make science work for society.

As the former President of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professions, Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Society for Medical Physics, and Chair of the Council’s own Profession-Specific Committee, Dr. Shirazu is no stranger to leadership in the regulatory space. His appointment comes at a pivotal time in the Council’s journey as we continue working to strengthen regulation, promote innovation, and raise the visibility of the allied health workforce in Ghana.

We are confident that under his leadership, the Council will build on its achievements, expand its influence, and advance its mandate with renewed energy.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Issahaku Shirazu and warmly welcoming him into this new role.
